Rotating one page vs. all pages
You can rotate every page in the document the same amount, or select individual pages and rotate them independently — useful when only a few pages in a scanned document came out sideways while the rest were fine.
Does rotation change the file size?
Rotation just changes each page's orientation metadata, not the underlying image or text data, so the file size stays essentially the same before and after. It's a lightweight, lossless operation.
Rotating scanned pages — does OCR still work?
If a scanned page already has an OCR text layer, rotating the visual page doesn't break the underlying text — the text layer's coordinates rotate along with the page. If you rotate before running OCR, run OCR after rotating for the most reliable recognition.
Permanent rotation vs. viewer-only rotation
Some PDF viewers let you rotate the on-screen display temporarily without changing the file — that resets the next time someone opens it. This tool changes the actual page orientation saved in the file, so it stays rotated for everyone who opens it afterward.
Mixed orientations in one PDF
A PDF can have pages in different orientations — some portrait, some landscape — and that's completely normal, especially in scanned documents. You can rotate just the pages that need it while leaving correctly-oriented pages untouched.
Rotate direction: 90°, 180°, or 270°
90° and 270° swap a page between portrait and landscape; 180° flips a page upside down without changing its portrait/landscape shape. If a page looks sideways, try 90° one way, and if that's wrong, 270° is the other direction.
